Once some of mendicants of Buddha asked to Buddha. Why do you always ask to take food with love and why do you ask to take food in moderate quantity. If we do not take food with love, will it not be food or will it act as a poison if we eat it in large quantities?
Buddha says that our thoughts are
according to the food we eat. By food here Buddha means whatever we take in
whether it is information or foods. Both of these affect our lives. Buddha
tells his bhikkhus. Let me tell you a little story. Once a monk lived in a
forest whoever visited him. That monk would remove that person's problem in a
moment, gradually all the people of the village started going to that monk and
started asking that monk the solution of their problems.
And one day the king also went to that
monk with his minister and said to the monk, I have heard many of your
discussions. You have solution for every problem. I want to know why you are
spending your time in this forest. Come with me. I will give you every comfort
you need. The monk refuses the king, but the king forcibly takes that monk with
him.
And the king gives every comfort to that
monk. Time passes and gradually the behavior of the monk starts changing. You
will not believe the knowledge of that monk while living in that king's palace.
Changes completely, Even that sage could not understand that what was happening
to him. One day, taking a chance, the monk runs away with some diamonds.
The king heard of the monk escape. The
king sent his soldiers. In order to find that monk, the soldiers look for that
monk everywhere. But that monk runs towards the forest. The monk gets tired of
running. Almost in the middle of the forest the monk sits under a tree. As he
sits under the tree a fruit falls near him. He is also hungry, due to which he
eats that fruit.
That fruit was a kind of medicine. Which
after going into his stomach makes him sick. Even if medicine is taken without
need, it can also be harmful. The monk becomes so ill that he is ready to die.
His body dries up and becomes like a wood.
Now he thinks that why am I running away
with the money of that king. I was a monk, don't know what happened to me that
I am running away with this money .He regrets and goes back to the palace and
returning all the money to the king. That king is surprised and says when you
had to come back, why did you run away with this money, the monk tells him
sorry King but since last few months. I have eaten your other, due to which my
thinking became exactly like yours.
The monk says to that king, whatever wealth you have, you did not get it through hard work. You have either stolen it or have recovered it. What we receive, says Buddha, also decides our future. I want to say to all of you that before accepting anything, definitely see this thing that what you are going to accept. Where does it come from, does it come from anger, does it come from greed? Does it come from jealousy or comes out of love, because whatever you receive, whether it is a thought or a Food, both of them decide how your future will be.
