Dissatisfaction and unhappiness in our life mainly comes due to three types of poisons.
According to the Buddha, the person who frees his mind from
desire, anger, and ignorance attains ultimate happiness and peace.
The Buddha is saying that the person who has known the good and
bad consequences of desire and transcended it, Know the consequences of
what happens to anger and transcend it. And erased his ignorance by taking
knowledge and with discretion.
If observed carefully, it is the ignorant person who gets trapped
in the canal of emotions like desires and anger. That is why the Buddha said
that "one who frees his mind from desire, anger, and ignorance attains
supreme happiness and peace".
Now we will try to understand one by one why Buddha said this
The first poison is desire:
There is no end point of our desires, desires are endless.
Whenever something new comes to us, we immediately start desiring to get
something else, one desire is fulfilled then another desire then third.
Desires are exactly the same as if a person is thirsty and he
keeps on drinking salty water, will it ever be quenched, rather his thirst will
increase even more. These desires are just like that.
We think that if we get some object, we will be satisfied, we will
be happy, just like that salt water, but if we understand this, then we come to
know that our desires only give rise to the feeling of dissatisfaction in the
end, And dissatisfaction makes us sad.
The second poison is anger:
Everyone knows this, does anyone really know what happens because
of this? Hate or hatred due to anger, lack of compassion, there is no
compassion within, aggression (getting angry)All of these start cropping
up.
Desire makes us eager to get something, but anger works just the
opposite.
Understand with an example
Many times we get angry when some person or people of any caste
touch us. Because of which a feeling of hatred arises within us. But if we
understand this feeling of hatred born inside us, then we will come to know
that there is no basis for a feeling, there is no reason, and this feeling is
irrational.
By thinking and meditating in this way, we will be able to leave
anger and hatred. Nowadays it is seen that if a person gets angry then either
he will express it immediately or will try to suppress that anger inside.
Both these situations are very dangerous, when a person expresses
anger immediately, it leads to violence and hatred. Wars are taking place
because of anger and hatred. And if someone is suppressing that anger within
himself, he is also not doing right
As we keep on filling air in a tube, there comes a time after
which the tube bursts. Always suppressing anger, a time will come when you will
not be able to hold on to it anymore, and when it comes out, it will become
even more violent and harmful.
That's why Buddha's teachings say that we should see anger coming
from where it comes, what is the reason for it; try to understand the situation
by thinking slowly and not reacting immediately.
After some time we will be able to deal with an emotion like
anger. We will be able to reach the root cause behind anger.
The third poison is ignorance:
If we try to understand this, we will see that ignorance is the
reason for our sorrows.
Instead of understanding the thing as it is, we understand it the
other way around, due to which we make wrong assumptions. Buddha says that it
is because of ignorance that a person keeps wrong thoughts, remains deprived of
right concepts, becomes arrogant and starts doing wrong things.
This is very important thing because if your beliefs are wrong
then it will take you on the wrong path and the result will also be wrong.
So ignorance means lack of understanding and knowledge. As if you
didn't understand someone's words correctly and understood them the other way
around and got angry. Sacrifice animals for wealth and crops. Blindly following
any religion, all this happens because of ignorance.
What to do to get rid of ignorance?
To get rid of ignorance, we should get information. To remove your
doubt or doubt, you should ask yourself questions, meditate on those questions
and try to find their answers.
